Homeowners can easily place a mini skip in their driveway or yard without obstructing access or taking up too much space.

    • Small Skip (6 cubic yards) €320.00

Small skips are particularly suitable for projects where space is limited, but efficiency is still required. These compact skips are designed to fit into smaller areas, making them a popular option for urban and suburban settings where larger skips might be impractical.

Medium skips offer more capacity while still being versatile and convenient for various waste disposal needs. They bridge the gap between small-scale and large-scale waste management, making them an excellent choice for larger projects.

  • Restricted Items in a Skip

Understanding What Cannot Be Disposed Of

Proper waste management is crucial for maintaining a sustainable environment and keeping our communities clean. Skips are often used for disposing of large amounts of waste generated from construction sites, home renovations, and various other projects. However, not all items can be placed in a skip. This guide aims to inform you about the restricted items that should not be disposed of in a skip and the reasons behind these restrictions.

    Hazardous Materials

Disposing of hazardous materials in a skip is strictly prohibited due to their potential to cause harm to human health and the environment. Hazardous materials include:

    • Asbestos: This material can release harmful fibers into the air, posing a significant health risk.
    • Paints and Solvents: Many paints and solvents contain toxic chemicals that can leach into the soil and water.
    • Fluorescent Tubes: These contain mercury, which is highly toxic.
    • Batteries: Batteries contain heavy metals and acids that can be harmful if not disposed of properly.
    • Pesticides and Herbicides: These chemicals can contaminate soil and water sources.

    Electrical Appliances

Electrical appliances, also known as e-waste, should not be placed in skips due to the presence of hazardous components and valuable materials that can be recycled. E-waste includes:

    • Televisions and Monitors: These contain hazardous substances like lead and mercury.
    • Refrigerators and Freezers: These appliances contain refrigerants that can be harmful to the environment.
    • Computers and Laptops: These devices contain various metals and chemicals that require special recycling processes.
    • Small Electrical Items: Items such as toasters, kettles, and hairdryers also fall under this category.

    Medical Waste

Medical waste poses significant health risks and must be disposed of in compliance with strict regulations. This includes:

    • Sharps: Needles, syringes, and other sharp objects can cause injury and spread infections.
    • Pharmaceuticals: Unused or expired medications should not be thrown in a skip as they can contaminate water sources.
    • Biological Waste: Items contaminated with bodily fluids, such as bandages and dressings, require special handling and disposal.

    Tyres

Tyres are not allowed in skips due to their non-biodegradable nature and the potential for environmental harm. Tyres should be taken to designated recycling facilities where they can be properly processed and repurposed.

    Gas Cylinders and Canisters

Disposing of gas cylinders and canisters in a skip is dangerous due to the risk of explosion. These items should be returned to the supplier or taken to a hazardous waste disposal facility.

    Plasterboard

Plasterboard contains gypsum, which can produce harmful gases when it decomposes in a landfill. It must be disposed of separately to ensure safe handling and environmental protection.

    Mattresses

Mattresses are not suitable for disposal in skips due to their bulky nature and the difficulty of processing them in landfills. They should be taken to a specialized recycling center.

    Liquids

Liquids, including oils, fuels, and chemicals, are prohibited from skips as they can leak and cause contamination. These liquids should be disposed of through appropriate hazardous waste channels.
